Southampton and Burnley are facing each other at the St. Mary’s Stadium in a game from the 8th round of the English Premier League.

Just two points are separating the two teams in the standings after the first seven rounds. Southampton are currently placed at the 10th spot, while Burnley are 14th. This is a typical game from the midtable of the league, so it could really go in either way.

Southampton will be without some important players like Ryan Bertrand, Jay Rodriguez and Shane Long, who are all injured at the moment. Cedric Soares, Matt Targett, Sofiane Boufal and Jeremy Pied are also not avaliable for the manager Claude Puel.

Burnley will travel to St. Mary’s without Tom Heaton and Ashley Barnes, who are also recovering from injuries. We could easily say that Sean Dyche has to deal with a lot of less problems than Claude Puel. It’s still about to be seen how this is going to influence what’s about to happen on the pitch.

When the two teams met during the 2014/15 Premier League campaign, they exchanged a win against each other. Burnley won the game at home, but a few months later The Saints did the same at the St. Mary’s, winning with 2-0. The overall record between these two teams is absolutely equal – 17 wins for Southampton, 17 wins for Burnley and 14 draws. Now one of them could lead the head to head record at the St. Mary’s.

We should note that alongside Stoke City, Burnley is the team with the lowest amount of goals scored since the the start of the new campaign – just 5. Southampton on the other hand is one of the teams with the strongest defenses in the league, conceding just six goals in the first seven rounds of the league.
